8 Days Uganda Chimps and Gorillas

This gorilla and chimps adventure trip combines both mountain gorilla tracking and chimpanzee tracking in Uganda. Meet the rare mountain gorillas face to face in the wild, track chimpanzees and enjoy bird watching and nature walks on this trip! The trip ends with time to relax on picturesque Lake Bunyonyi. This trip starts from Entebbe in Uganda and ends in Kigali in Rwanda.


Day 1: Kampala – Kibale Forest.

This morning after breakfast, you will depart Kampala/Entebbe for Kibale Foest National Park. Overnight at Primates Lodge or similar (LD)

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

After an early breakfast, we will report at the ranger station at Kibale Forest at 8:00am after breakfast and track the habituated chimps in the tropical rainforest. The forest has a total 13 Primate species that includes the red Colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bush babies.  After the chimps trekking and later in the evening, take a guided nature walk through Bigodi Swamp, home to approximately 137 birds. Overnight at Primates Lodge or similar (FB).

Day 3: Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park with game drive before getting to your lodge for lunch. Later in the evening, we will have an evening game drives to catch up with animals that were missed in the morning.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

This morning, there is an option of going chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura gorge or going for a morning game drive.

Return to the lodge and in the afternoon take a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel which gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippo’s huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. After this wonderful afternoon, a slow drive back to Lodge.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will have a game drive in the Ishasha region, famed for its tree climbing lions and there after depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National (approximately 3-5 hours drive).

Day 6: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

This morning you will have to wake up very early to get ready for the most exciting activity of gorilla tracking. There are now about 900 individuals left in the world! The tracking may take between 2 and 6 hours but it’s well worth the effort. In the afternoon relax at the camp or if you have the energy, go for a guided village walk to visit the Local Batwa Community returning to the Camp in the evening.

Day 7: Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast at the lodge, we will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the deepest lakes in East Africa and is dotted with many islands giving you great views and a peace of mind.

Dinner and overnight: Birdnest@ Lake Bunyonyi

Day 8: Departure

After a morning breakfast, we will depart from Lake Bunyionyi and continue to the Uganda-Rwanda border to finalize with border crossing formalities before heading to Kigali.

You will then check at your hotel and a night or head straight to the airport, depending on your flight schedule.
